Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: City Tour in Arequipa

Our half-day tour begins with a visit to the districts of Carmen Alto and Yanahuara. Along the way, we will admire the landscapes of the city, surrounded by the Chachani, Misti, and Picchu Picchu volcanoes, as well as the surrounding countryside, which includes pre-Incan terraces and the Chili River.
Our first destination is the main square of Yanahuara, where we find the church built in 1750 with its baroque facade. Highlights include the arches that frame views of the city, inscribed with sayings reflecting the philosophy of life of the people of Arequipa. This district showcases colonial Arequipa with its narrow streets and grand sillar houses.
We continue to the historic center to visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, an example of four centuries of Arequipeña architecture. We’ll explore its cells, narrow streets, and cloisters, adorned with flowers and frescoes. The alleyways guide us through different areas of the convent, where original furniture is preserved.
Finally, we visit the Plaza de Armas, considered one of the most beautiful in Peru. Here, we find the Church of the Company of Jesus, a clear example of mestizo architecture, and we’ll explore its cloisters and dome. We conclude our tour at the Tristán del Pozo house, a hallmark of colonial architecture.
