      Description

On this full-day exploration, the Uyuni salt flat will reveal its imposing and mysterious nature. The desert landscape blends with history, like the Dakar Monument, and the unique architecture of the Playa Blanca Hotel, built entirely of salt. After a relaxing lunch in the salar, you’ll experience the most stunning sunset, followed by an unforgettable star-gazing adventure. This tour is filled with beauty, tranquility, and moments of reflection.

      Itinerary

      Day 1

Day 1: Exploring the Salar and its Surroundings

      • Our adventure begins with a visit to the Train Cemetery in Uyuni, a historic site where we’ll see rusted locomotives and carriages abandoned in the vast desert landscape. These old trains played a key role in Bolivia’s railway expansion during the 20th century.
      • Next, we’ll head to the small town of Colchani, where you’ll have the chance to explore local markets and buy souvenirs made from salt. We will also visit the salt factories, where you’ll learn about the traditional process of extracting and refining salt from the Salar de Uyuni.
      • On our way to the salar, we will make a stop at the “Eyes of Salt” small natural wells where saltwater springs to the surface, creating unique circular formations. We’ll also visit the Plaza de las Banderas, an emblematic site displaying the flags of countries that have visited the salar. It’s a colorful and symbolic place, perfect for photos and reflecting on the cultural significance of the region.
      • Continuing our tour, we’ll visit the Dakar Monument, a sculpture honoring the famous Dakar Rally, which passes through the region. Then, we’ll explore Playa Blanca Hotel, a unique hotel made entirely of salt blocks, making it an architectural gem in the heart of the salt desert.
      • For lunch, we’ll enjoy a picnic in the desert, where you can relax and savor a simple yet delicious meal while taking in the surreal landscape and the tranquility of the area. The peaceful surroundings invite us to reflect and appreciate the beauty around us.
      • If the weather permits and it’s not the rainy season, we’ll continue to Isla Incahuasi, an island in the middle of the salar famous for its towering cacti and panoramic views of the salt flats. This island is one of the most iconic photo opportunities in the region.
      • Throughout the day, we’ll have a photography session, with guides providing professional camera equipment to capture the best images of the unique landscape. You’re also welcome to use your own phone for photos. The guides will be available to offer tips and help you get the best shots in this incredible environment.
      • As the day winds down, we’ll prepare for one of the highlights of the tour: sunset over the Salar de Uyuni. The view is unforgettable, with the sun setting over the vast, reflective surface of the salt flats. If there is water on the salar, the reflections create a magical effect, enhancing the surreal atmosphere of the momento.
      • Finally, we’ll end the day with a star-gazing tour. After the sun sets, we’ll look up at the clear sky over the salar, free from light pollution. The night sky here is one of the clearest in the world, making it perfect for stargazing and astrophotography.
