      Description

The Inca Trail is a unique experience that combines history, nature and adventure. For four days, you will hike along ancient trails built by the Incas, traversing breathtaking landscapes ranging from cloud forests to towering mountain passes. Along the way, you will explore fascinating archaeological sites such as Runkurakay, Sayacmarca and Wiñayhuayna, each with its own history and charm.

The physical challenge of the trek is offset by panoramic views, campsites in the middle of nature and the privilege of reaching Machu Picchu through Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, at sunrise. This trek is more than a hike; it is a deep connection with the majesty of the Andes and the legacy of the Incas.

      Itinerary

      Day 1

      DAY 01: CUSCO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA

Our adventure begins with a comfortable transfer from your accommodation in Cusco, Urubamba or Ollantaytambo. If you are in Cusco, expect to be picked up between 4 and 5 a.m., while transfer times from Urubamba or Ollantaytambo will be confirmed during your briefing. After pick-up, we will embark on a 1.5 hour private transport ride to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arriving at kilometer 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail. Crossing the Urubamba River bridge, our 4-day journey along the classic Inca Trail officially begins.

The first day serves as a gentle introduction to the trek, allowing you to gradually acclimatize to the altitude and terrain. Along the way, we will explore the ruins of Patallacta, an important center of administrative, economic and religious importance during Inca times. In addition, we will visit Willkarakay, a military post strategically located above Patallacta. Continuing our hike, we will enter the lush Wayllabamba valley, walking along the Cusichaca River and gradually ascending through the dense Andean forest. The first day concludes when we arrive at our campsite in Wayllabamba, where you will enjoy a well-deserved rest.

      Day 2

      DAY 02: WAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYO

Our Inca Trail adventure continues with an early start, aiming to reach the highest point of the trek: the Warmihuañusca Pass, known as the Dead Woman’s Pass. The morning hike is challenging due to the altitude, but rewards us with spectacular scenery.

We begin with a 1.5 hour hike through dense vegetation to the Tres Piedras camp, where we will take a brief rest. Continuing upwards, we will enter the inter-Andean forest, home to towering Unca trees, and arrive at Llulluchapampa after two hours. There we will enjoy snacks and hot drinks before tackling the final climb to the Warmihuañusca Pass. At the top, the panoramic views of the valleys will be unforgettable. From there, we will descend to our campsite at Pacaymayu, where we will spend the night.

      Day 3

      DAY 03: PACAYMAYO – WIÑAYWAYNA

We start with a 45-minute ascent to visit Runkurakay, a rest lodge for former pilgrims. Another 45-minute ascent will take us to Runkurakay Pass, the second highest point of the trek. A descent will lead us to the archaeological site of Sayacmarca, strategically located and rich in history.

After a detailed exploration, we will walk along a paved trail to Chaquicocha for lunch. From there, the trail takes us through an impressive cloud forest, culminating at the Phuyupatamarca Pass. This natural viewpoint offers spectacular views of the Sacred Valley and surrounding peaks.

We will then descend towards Wiñayhuayna, our final campsite. On the way, we will pass an important archaeological site and a temple dedicated to the sacred spirits of the mountains, marking the perfect end to the day.

      Day 4

DAY 04: WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

We rise early to complete the last stretch to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, which offers us our first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu as it bathes in the golden morning light. From there, a 45-minute descent takes us to the top of Machu Picchu for iconic photos. Upon entering the citadel, we will begin a 2-hour guided tour that will reveal the history and secrets of this magnificent archaeological wonder.

For those who have booked in advance, an additional climb to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain is available.

After descending by bus to Aguas Calientes, we will meet for lunch and receive our train tickets for the return to Cusco. The train will take us to Ollantaytambo, where transportation will be waiting to take us to our hotel in Cusco.
