      Description

Explore the surreal landscape of the Salar de Uyuni, a place that seems like it’s from another world. Among rock formations, colorful lagoons, and a sky so clear it feels like it touches the horizon, you’ll experience something truly unique. Discover the charm of the largest salt flat on the planet, explore its monuments, and uncover the history that lies within each corner of this remarkable place.

      Itinerary

      Day 1

Day 1: Exploring the Salar de Uyuni

      • Our journey begins early in the morning as we head towards the famous abandoned train station in Uyuni, known as the “Train Cemetery” Here, we will see old, rusted trains stranded in the middle of a vast, arid landscape. Our guide will explain the history of these trains and their significance in the region. Next, we’ll visit the small town of Colchani, where we will tour the salt factories to learn about the process of salt extraction from the salar. You’ll also have time to shop for local souvenirs.
      • We’ll then continue our trip to the “Eyes of Salt” small holes filled with salty water in the salt flat, and the “Plaza de las Banderas,” a square honoring the countries that have visited this stunning location. Afterward, we will visit the Dakar Monument, commemorating the rally that passes through this region, and the Playa Blanca Hotel, which is completely made of salt. It’s a great spot for photos and to admire the uniqueness of the place.
      • By midday, we’ll stop for a picnic lunch in the desert, allowing time to enjoy the serenity and beauty of the surroundings. After lunch, depending on weather conditions, we will head towards Isla Incahuasi, a small island in the middle of the salt flat famous for its rock formations and giant cacti. If weather permits, this is one of the most iconic stops, although it’s inaccessible during the rainy season.
      • Throughout the day, our guides will provide professional photography equipment to capture panoramic views of the salt flat, though you’re welcome to use your own devices as well. As the day progresses, we’ll prepare for a sunset over the salar, which can be breathtaking, especially if the salt flat has a layer of water that reflects the sky. To conclude the day, we’ll enjoy a night astrophotography tour, where you can marvel at a remarkably clear, starry sky, far from light pollution.

      Day 2

Day 2: Mines, Lagoons, and Ruins

      • On the second day, we’ll start with a visit to the San Cristóbal silver mine, one of the largest in Bolivia, where you’ll learn about mineral extraction and the region’s mining history. After the mine tour, we’ll stop in Alota for a local lunch, giving us a chance to recharge before continuing the journey.
      • After lunch, we’ll head to the Alota Wetlands, a natural area with marshes where we can observe a variety of bird species and enjoy the unique local flora and fauna. Next, we will explore the Valley of Rocks, a stunning area with curious rock formations that provide the perfect opportunity for exploration and photography of this surreal landscape.
      • Our next stop will be the Catal Lagoon, a saltwater lagoon known for its vibrant colors and large population of flamingos. Here, we can admire the local wildlife and enjoy the peace of the area. Following this, we’ll visit the Vinto Lagoon, another beautiful lagoon where, depending on the season, flamingos and other birds can be seen.
      • The final stop before returning to Uyuni will be Italia Perdida, a historical site that holds the remains of old Italian constructions, set in a desert environment that gives the place a unique character. Finally, we’ll return to Uyuni, wrapping up this incredible tour of one of Bolivia’s most awe-inspiring landscapes.
